2022 · A Girl in a Cylinder · Audio-Immersive Theatre · 20 min · Director & Adapter

— SYNOPSIS
In the future, humans release "Aeroids" to fight viruses and environmental collapse. Jiyu, whose immune system reacts badly to them, must live inside a sealed cylinder for the rest of her life. One day she accidentally breaks an Aeroid sprayer and meets Noah, the AI that runs it. They never see each other's faces, but they become friends through a speaker.

— DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Based on a story by Korean science-fiction writer Kim Cho-yeop, the piece placed the audience inside an air tent wearing headsets, so they could share Jiyu's situation from the inside. To lower the pressure of "participation" and give the audience real choice, some of Jiyu's lines were left blank in the recording. At those moments, audience members could say to Noah whatever they wanted to say in her place. The work is about disability, barriers, and how we reach each other across isolation.
